You cannot abruptly stop taking amitriptyline without suffering undesirable affects.
I was able to get off the drug by simply decreasing my daily dosage by 10mg each week.
When i finally did get down to one 10mg tablet per night, i used a pill splitter to cut them in half and took 5mg per night for a week.
I then went through two weeks of taking a 5mg pill every other night.
I then took the pill every 3rd night for a couple of weeks before stopping completely.
I am now clean.
The above may sound highly involved, however you must know that it took me four tries to get off amitriptyline for good.
Time and patience are essential.
